Boynton Prairie

1981 Sept-Oct, The Humboldt Historian, Diana W. Finney - A Place Name, BOYNTON PRAIRIE. 

Located ten miles east of Arcata, Paul Boynton left Cook County, Illinois and arrived in Humboldt County in 1853. In 1857, he and his family moved east of Union (Arcata) on the Trinity Trail. Boynton served as a volunteer guard under Captain Bell during trouble between the whites and the Indians. On Sept. 14, 1858 he was killed within 200 yards of his house by Indians. His land became known as Boynton Prairie.
