PIONEER WOMAN PASSES AWAY IN ONO - Mrs. Calpurna [Jay] Couey, wife of George C. Couey, pioneer of the western part of Shasta County, died in the family home here Saturday. [21 Feb 1914]

Mrs. Couey had not been well for a long time. She was aged 76 and consequently very feeble. Still her death was sudden and due to heart trouble.

The funeral was held yesterday afternoon. Services were held at the home for the accommodation of the bereaved husband, who was too old and feeble to make the journey to the church and the grave. Services were held in the Ono Church after those in the home. Burial was made in the cemetery in Igo.

Mrs. Couey leaves, besides her venerable husband, two daughters and three sons - Mrs. M. F. Miller of Sacramento, Mrs. Cal Smith of Chico and Louis Couey, Marion Couey and Jay Couey all of Ono.
