"Klamath County"

Klamath County, California existed from 1851 April 25 to 1874 May 28. Not an original county of 1850, it was carved out of the northern half of Trinity County. In 1857, Klamath gave up land to form Del Norte County in the very northwestern tip of the State. By 28 May 1874, the California Legislature divided the remaining acreage with Humboldt and Siskiyou Counties. Klamath County was no more. However, she has namesakes in the great state of California, and reigns as a county in neighboring Oregon.

1851, "Klamath was created 25 April 1851, dissolved 28 March 1874. Originally it consisted of all State area lying west of the summit of the Coast range, north of a line drawn easterly through the mouth of Mad River. In 1852 Siskiyou took the eastern part; the southern part was attached to Trinity in 1855; and Del Norte was detached in 1857. In 1875, the remainder of Klamath was divided between Humboldt and Siskiyou." - Walter N. Frickstad.

1857 August 20, Daily Alta California, The Supervisors of Klamath county have appointed W. McDonald and W.M. Buel, Commissioners on the part of that county to meet those from Del Norte, and adjust the division of the debt between the two counties.~
