1873 May 20, 4th Class Post Office established as Big Valley, Lassen, California, located 3 miles northeast of Bieber. A locative area name.

James D. Taber, First Postmaster.

1874 July 23, William B. Deake, Postmaster.

1874 December 28, Eburn H. Wolsey, Postmaster.

1875 August 5, Post Office discontinued.

1876 December 7, Post Office re-established.

1876 December 7, John Bassett, Postmaster.

1877 March 8, Post Office discontinued and the service moved to Bieber.

1880 June 26, Shasta Courier - "William Burgett, after whom the prosperous town of Burgettville was named, is active in building new roads in Big Valley. Bill is a rustler and knows what is for the interest for the locality in which he resides and nothing contributes more to the prosperity if any locality that good, well-kept highways."~
