14 April 1888, Shasta Courier -Jeremiah Coughlin, one of the pioneers of Horsetown, was called from this world on Thursday of last week [5 April 1888], and was buried in the Shasta Catholic Cemetery last Saturday [7 April 1888]. He was a native of Ireland, and aged 52 years, industrious, honest and kind to all and affectionate to his family. It is a pity to see such a man removed from the world. A devoted wife, three sons and a daughter are left to lament his demise.

[Jeremiah left his wife:  Bridget Murphey Couglin; sons: Daniel W. (1863-1890), James Stephen (1866-1936), Jeremiah "Jerry" (1868-1930) and daughter:  Anna Theresa "Tessie" Coughlin Croney (1877-1932).]
