DOWNER, O.C. Alice "Alice" Street (1865-1949)

ONETIME RESIDENT OF IGO SUCCUMBS - Mrs. Alice Downer, 84, formerly of Igo, died in a Red Bluff hospital yesterday [June 1949]. She had been ill 11 years.

Funeral services will be held tomorrow at 10:30 a.m. at Fickert's chapel in Red Bluff with the Rev. Grant Hanson officiating. Burial is to be made in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Red Bluff.

Mrs. Downer moved from Igo to Red Bluff 50 years ago. Her husband, the late Curtis Downer, was employed as a clerk in Alex Leiter's Igo Grocery Store, and was remembered there as being a "caller" at dances. Curtis Downer died in Red Bluff about 25 years ago.

Mrs. Downer was born April 1, 1865, in Napa County. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star.

She leaves a son, Elton Curtis Downer of Alameda, and a sister, Mrs. Clara Evans of Red Bluff. Mrs. Elaine Sutton of Redding is a niece.

Fickert's Chapel of Red Bluff is in charge of funeral services.

["Alice" was the daughter of William Riley Street and Barsheba Pollard Street. The Street family lived in the Bald Hills. Alice married George Curtis Downer (1848-1924) in Shasta County on 15 November 1892. The couple had one son, Elton Curtis Dower (1893-1952). Pearl Street Miller was Alice's sister.]
